Low Carb Diet Basics

AppleWhile many people want to be slim and healthy, they consider the concept of dieting to be daunting. When you talk to most people about diets, they imagine having to starve, not being able to eat the foods they enjoy. It is for this reason that many people are unsuccessful when they attempt to go on a diet plan. People generally hate diets because they deprive them of the foods they like. However, one thing that you must realize is that diets should not all be placed into the same category. There is one particular diet that will allow you to eat many of the foods you want, while still being able to lose weight. This diet is known as the low carb diet.

When people go on a diet, they do so for either one of two reasons. Their goal is either ot reduce their weight, or to enhance their health. However, it should also be noted that some people go on diets for both the reasons listed. They wanted to improve their health and lose weight at the same time. If you are an adult who is not obese, and you don’t have any immediate family members that are overweight, you will be fine if you choose to stick with the food pyramid. Even if you are healthy, you can maintain your health by choosing a diet that has a lower level of carbohydrates.

If you have diabetes, or you are overweight, the food pyramid will not be very effective. While the low fat diets may work for people who don’t have diabetes, that are not useful for those who do. Not only will low fat diets not work for those who have diabetes, they can actually exacerbate the disease. A low carb diet is the one system that is powerful enough to fight obesity, diabetes(type 2), and high cholesterol. While many doctors have been reluctant to accept this in the past, many of them are now starting to see these results.

It should be noted that there are multiple variations of the low carb diet. One of the most popular and well known of these diets is the Atkins Diet. No matter which low carb diet plan you use, one thing that they all share is that carbohydrates must be reduced. Most of these diets will seek to reduce carboydrates, and replace them with proteins. A low carb diet is very similar to a diet that is rich in protein and high in fat.
