Do We Actually Consume Almost 4000 Calories a Day?

The Food and Agriculture Organization also known as FAO, has published its latest yearbook online. What they put online is like the picture here, eye opener.

As you can see in this link, the statical yearbook for 2004 contains profile of every country in the world. The statistics are available in capita consumption. Here is were it gets interesting. The USA yearbook for 2000-2002 shows that we Americans eat 3,790 calories per day in average. I was literally shocked. Since 1991, we have raised are calorie intake by more then 200 calories. Here is the graph.

Why is this happening? Um, good question, it could be that fast food chains are opening everywhere, or that we are becoming lazier, but we shouldn’t ask ourselves why this is happening, but look for a solution.

We are consuming almost 2,000 more calories then what our bodies need. No wonder 75% of Americans are overweight.
