Being Sad Might Get You Fat

popcornAnother study has found that people who are sad definitely eat more then usual. This might not sound like a break threw discovery, but have you ever wondered if watching a sad movie has the same effect?

A preliminary test and 2 lab studies show that people eat more amounts of foods (buttered popcorn and M&M’s) when they are in a sad state than when they are in a happy state…(source)

How was the study done?

The study was done by telling around 40 people to watch either sad, romantic, funny or a scary movie. While watching the movies, the participants were offered a variety of foods. What they found was that those who watched a sad movie ate almost 37% more popcorn then the other groups!

This was a rather small study, but its pretty impressive how the emotions connect with our eating habits.
