3 Ways To Improve Your Diet At Work

workA normal day at work: You hurry off with nothing in your stomach. By morning you’re onto your second coffee.  Since its break time, you go off to by a muffin and some latte.

Lunchtime comes and you get anything that’s fast and cheap. By mid afternoon your are tired and not in a very good mood, so you decide to grab a bite or snack with a coke.

This is the busy lifestyle Americans live everyday. Also, this is just one out of hundreds of reasons why the U.S is the country with most overweight people.
Here are 3 easy ways to improve your work diet.

  1. Don’t Skip Breakfast
    If you are not hungry when you wake up or don’t have enough time - why not prepare some breakfast at work? I’ve known many a colleague who will make themselves some breakfast in the staff room. Most offices will have at least a fridge and a small microwave oven. If your office doesn’t have this, then suggest to your boss that you would like some kind of a staff from for your meals. Maybe he agrees.
  2. Put Some Fruit in Your Bag
    A dedicated and fit person always had 2 or 3 pieces of fruit sitting on his desk. The fruit was always consumed near the end of the day. It rubbed off on me so I began bringing in fruit. I’ve never looked back. You don’t have to keep reaching for the vending machine, therefore you can save a lot of money by the end of the month.
  3. Get Out of The Office
    I’ve always been surprised at the people who stay in the office for 8 hours straight. Plan to get out at lunch time - go for a small walk - clear your mind - and make time to eat something.

Some of you know that stigma comes in many forms like negative comments, criticisms, etc. And every year that passes, people are getting more and more stigmatized. This happens because of the society that we are living in.
Here is a small list of the top 5 sources of such stigma.

  2. Servers at restaurants
  3. Classmates

Researchers have discovered that people may confront a range of sources of stigma at all levels of overweight, but experience the most stigma from family members as their weight increases each month.
Younger people were much more likely to report being stigmatized by classmates, teachers, and nurses than older people. That’s not surprising, considering that young people now a days have more inscurities then before.

Coronary Artery Disease

Incidence of Coronary Artery Disease: Known also as coronary heart disease or ischemic heart disease, this is the most common form of heart disease. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the #1 cause of death among women and men in North America today. Every year, it is estimated that more than 500,000 Americans die of heart attacks which are caused by coronary artery disease.
According to the American Heart Association, over 12 million Americans suffer from coronary heart disease (coronary artery disease). There are multiple risk factors including:

* Age (65 and older)
* Smoking
* Family history of coronary heart disease
* Diabetes
* High Cholesterol
* Obesity

Definition of Coronary Artery Disease

Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when there is blockage of the vessels which supply the heart with blood. This disease process is called “atherosclerosis” or “arteriosclerosis”. Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease is characterized by the hardening of the arteries.

In this process, cholesterol and other fats are deposited in the layers of the arteries. These substances build up in the walls of the coronary arteries and create rigid substances called plaque. The plaque makes the artery less flexible which makes it more difficult for blood to flow.

Coronary Artery Disease Symptoms (ischemic heart disease)

Coronary Artery Disease Symptoms can include chest pain (angina pectoris). Once blood flow in the coronary arteries is slowed, the classic “chest pain” coronary heart disease symptoms occur because the heart muscles are not receiving enough blood.

The first coronary artery disease sign or symptom is often a heart attack. Also known as a myocardial infraction, a heart attack can occur if one of the cardiac arteries becomes completely blocked. This cuts off the blood supply to the heart muscle. The cells in the heart start to die when they don’t receive blood, and this may cause irreversible damage to the heart muscle.

Heart failure may also occur when the heart can’t pump blood through to the body’s organs as well as it should. This means that the organs are not getting enough blood. Signs of heart failure include:

* Shortness of breath
* Edema (retaining fluids)
* Low energy levels

Coronary artery disease (coronary heart disease) is a condition that may also lead to heart arrhythmias. When the blood supply to the heart is reduced, it can change the ability of the heart to function properly. A heart arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat.

Treatment for Coronary Artery Disease (ischemic heart disease)

Treatment for coronary artery disease varies depending on the nature of the patient’s condition. Possible treatment for coronary heart disease may include:

* Exercise – as prescribed by your doctor
* Cessation of smoking (if you smoke)
* Stress reduction
* Change to a healthier diet
* Loss of weight
* Medication as prescribed by your doctor

Britney Spears Sugar Addict?

britney spearsThere are many rumors and evidence that the famous and controversial star Britney Spears maybe a sugar addict, or should I say a Coca Cola addict. Britney in the past months has become a sugar addict consuming donuts, cookies, sodas, candies and many other unhealthy things. I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure this is related to her recent problems and depression.

There was an article mentioning that Britney spears consumes 24 cans of “Coca Cola” each day. Now, this is an extremely and dangerous amount of soda that can affect Britney Spears in a terrible way.

Britney did have a special contract with the company Pepsi to promote there product, but I guess this doesn’t change the fact the Britney spears still likes her Coca Cola better.

Britney spears reportedly been getting treatment at Promises Rehabilitation Center in Malibu, California, since Feb. 21 for conditions that she claims are “substance abuse, bulimia and postpartum depression.

Burger king Triple Whopper

Burger King continues its marketing strategy to promote the big triple whopper. Do you know how much calories this burger actually has? It has almost 1300 calories, that’s more then half of the calories a human needs in a full day.

The calorie breakdown:

82 grams fat

52 grams carbs

71 grams protein

1590 mg sodium

But wait, those 1300 calories are only the burger itself, but once you add your big coke and fries its another 1000 calories. So in total we are talking about 2300 calories.

In my opinion, that’s a crazy amount. In other words, once you eat all this, you meet your days worth of calorie intake. So next time your go to Burger King, think twice on ordering that triple whopper.

Does Diets Affect Your Brain?

fruitThere are three studies which have appeared in the Neurology journals linking cognition with diets. One such study links increased body fat with declining mental function. If this is true, they are practically saying that overweight people are less intelligent then skinny ones. Um, I think this can lead to controversy.
Another study found that the Mediterranean style diets can actually help in preventing the Alzheimer’s disease. You can see the full story here.

The last study found that increased body weight can lead to poor cognitive function. This study was done with about 2,000 healthy men who were in the ages of 30 and 60. In general, the researchers found that people with a high BMI had lower test scores than those with a lower Body Mass Index.

Overall, they found that your diet can have a direct impact on your brain.

Is There A Cure For Diabetes?

DiabetisOne of my friends found out that Mens Health magazine was accusing the American Diabetes Association of rejecting or not accepting what could be a cure for type 2 diabetes. This is not new, this happen a few months ago, but I just found it interesting and decided to post it on my site.

You may be asking yourself what is that cure that they are rejecting, well, it is carbohydrates. And it makes sense. Why? Because unlike fat, protein, and fiber, which have no impact on blood sugar - carbohydrates such as sugar and starch are broken down quickly into glucose during digestion, which is then absorbed into the bloodstream.

Therefore, if you have diabetes, it would make sense to control your blood sugar by not consuming to much  carbohydrates. But if you go to the ADA website, you will see the complete opposite, a food pyramid that rests on “Grains, Breads, and other Starches.

Incredible really, given that the ADA spent about $52 million on research last year. It seems the ADA have a better solution: medication. Men’s Health reports that the ADA recommends “metformin” - a drug with sales totaling $1.1 billion in 2005 and expecting to reach $1.4 billion in 2007. Its obvious they want the money and not what’s best for the patient’s.

That’s why there are more and more people that don’t trust the government. I find this ridiculous, they just want there billions without caring for does who have this terrible disease.

Whats your opinion on this matter?
