Exercise Reduces Colon Cancer Risk

Colon cancer study.International researchers have found that keeping active physically can cut the risk of developing colon cancer.

Scientist studied and analyzed data from over 400,000 people in 10 European countries, and found those who maintained an active life style with some type of exercise were 22% less likely to develop the disease.

The researches mentioned that an hour a day of intense activity or 2 hours of moderate activity would be more then enough to reduce the likely hood of developing cancer.

Dr Lesley Walker said, “If you combine regular physical activity with a good diet you are more likely to maintain a healthy body weight which will also help to reduce your risk of bowel cancer.”

The same study found that active people had a 35% less chance to have a tumor in the right side of the colon. If the person was already in shape and were active then the risk of developing the tumor was reduced even further.

I’m glad that this study was made and published. Now people can see how exercise can change there life completely. In my personal opinion, doing exercise can extend the life span of anybody.

Know your Portion Size

Food pyramid portion size.Developing an eye for portion sizes makes or breaks your weight-loss plan. Say you started your day with cereal and a bran muffin. Sounds healthy enough right? But your cereal bowl totaled 4 servings and your bran muffin is 3 times the serving size giving you more than 800 calories for your morning alone! Look at the label and see for yourself.

Obviously the number of calories not only depends on what you eat, but also about how much you eat. If portions of even healthy foods are oversized it can lead to weight-gain. Measuring portions is the key to healthy and successful weight-loss.

When measuring liquids, cereals, vegetables, pasta, and salad use measuring cups. Use measuring spoons to measure jelly, sugar, peanut butter, salad dressing, mayonnaise, butter. You can also use a food scale to weigh food before consuming.

Most people don’t realize how much you are really eating. American portions sizes are being served to us on an average of 3 times the portion size it was fifty years ago.

When eating, take a portion out of the container or bag. Avoid eating straight out of the container or bag, as it is much harder to keep track of how much you have consumed. Spooning ice cream from a cup is certainly different then eating it from a half-gallon box. Drink all beverages in an eight-ounce juice cup rather than a twelve-ounce cup. Also eat cereal from a cup rather than a bowl. One study suggested that 70 percent of the people involved in a weight-loss program were more satisfied with less food when it was served on a salad plate rather than a larger dinner plate.

Send all of your over-sized cups, bowls, and plates to the local thrift store. It is harder to give yourself too much juice if you only have 8 oz cups. Know that many times we fill out plates out of habit, instead of true hunger.

When eating a meal don’t eat the main entrée first. Instead start off with fiber-rich foods at the beginning of the meal. Try eating an oversized salad, a fresh fruit salad, or lots of fresh vegetables. Doing this helps you helps you fell more satisfied with fewer calories. This also gets rid of that starved feeling so you can have portion control for the main course of the meal.

A common complaint when starting a new weight-loss plan is sometimes you won’t feel satisfied with the correct portion size. dining out foods. The average American eats 2 out of 3 meals away from their homes. This is easy to believe with the busy lifestyles many families lead. You don’t have to choose between weight-loss and eating out. Many restaurants are changing their menus to suit weight-conscious Americans.

Plan your evening eating out ahead of time so you can prepare your body. Banking calories is an easy way to avoid weight gain. Simply cut calories in the meals prior to dining out, so you can afford to eat a little more. However, keep in mind that banking calories are about cutting back, not cutting out completely. Some people skip meals throughout the day so they can stuff themselves at the restaurant. They often end up eating more than if they had eating 2 small meals prior to a sensible dinner out.

Exercise a little extra the days prior to your evening out. It is always great to burn some extra calories and build lean muscle tissue that keeps your metabolism going strong for hours after your physical activity.

Before you go out, plan on a general order. If you wait until you arrive, the smell and visions of tantalizing foods can be the death of your current weight-loss. Try not to even look at the menu! Don’t be afraid to ask your server questions, you are the customer after all. Some menus don’t list the healthier options so ask you server for any suggestions making your meal lighter such as low-fat or fat-free milk and fresh fruit.

It is recommended by dieting professionals to start your meal with water, diet drinks, salads, and clear soups. This will help curb your appetite before you eat your main course.

Once you are served, enjoy your meal. Never dine out in a rush! You’ve probably paid a lot of money for your meal so why not savor every bit? It takes ten to twenty minutes for your brain to fully register you are full.

While eating out go easy on the alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is loaded with unnecessary calories and no nutrients. Be especially limited on sweet flavored mixed drinks as they are extremely high is sugar.

After you’ve enjoyed your mean, have the table cleared of leftovers immediately. Out of site means out of mind when it comes to food. If you really must have dessert, share one with someone.

It is common to feel like hitting the hay after a large meal, think Thanksgiving night. This feeling of drowsiness hits because the heart pumps extra blood and oxygen into your digestive tract and away from your brain. This feeling can be avoided with a short walk, or a little stretching.

Review - The Atkins Diet

The atkins diet.If you haven’t been under a rock for a few years, then you must of heard of the famous “if not the most famous diet of all time”, the Atkins Diet.

The main theory behind this diet is that by eating high protein meals like, fish, eggs, red meat, etc, you are going to end up burning more fat. Of course, carbohydrates are restricted, so you can’t eat bread, potatoes, rice, and so on, you get the idea.

This diet is very controversial because it is something that contradicts with what health experts want you to eat. The Atkins diet tells you to eat only non carbohydrate meals, while the heath experts tell you to eat all kinds of food, but in low portions.

My opinion is that the Atkins Diet just works.

It might not be the healthiest diet “which diet is totally healthy? Yeah none,” so while its not the health experts favorite diet, i think is one of the best weight loss diets of all time. I tried this diet for 4 months and lost 37 pounds and yes, i have kept it of.

For those who are going to try it, please be warned that the first days are going to be hard, but when those days are over, you will get used to it. And when you look at yourself in the mirror in some weeks or months, the only words that are going to come out of your month is “Hell yeah Atkins!”, you are going to see amazing results trust me.

Some recent research done by the British Dietetic Association found that a third of the people who were dieting ending up heavier then there original weight only a few weeks later. This is no surprise to me at all. If you do a diet that’s not healthy, i guarantee that you will end up gaining all the pounds you lost and maybe even more.

Fad diets are the kind of regimens where you consume a restrictive diet or some wired combination of foods for a short period of time. The trend goes like this, you start the fad diet, lose some pounds, you get happy, weeks later you gain the pounds back on, you get depressed and end up heavier. Sound familiar?
